Everbright International Increases Investment in Suzhou Industrial Park
Construct More Than 10 Environmental Protection Projects in Three to Five Years Create China's First Integrated Environmental Protection Industrial Park
China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or "the Group") is delighted to announce that it has signed a cooperative framework agreement in relation to the investment of projects in Everbright Environmental Protection National Demonstrative Veinous Ecological Industrial Park in Mudu County of Wuzhong District in Suzhou City with Mudu County People's Government of Wuzhong District in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. According to the agreement, the total investment in the Suzhou Everbright National Demonstration Veinous Industrial Park ("Suzhou Industrial Park") will increase by approximately RMB 2 billion (approximately HK$2.3 billion) through the construction of more than 10 environmental protection projects. Together with the HK$1.5 billion already invested, the total investment of the Suzhou Industrial Park will reach HK$3.8 billion.Everbright International will collaborate with the government, in accordance with the overall plan of Suzhou Industrial Park, to groom its automobile industry and build the most environmentally-friendly waste-to-energy plant in the country, while aiming to complete more than 10 environmental protection projects within three to five years. These projects include construction of Phase III of the Suzhou Waste-to-energy Plant, Phase II of the Industrial Solid Waste Landfill Project, a sludge treatment centre, an integrated use of waste landfill gasses project, a solar photovoltaic energy project, a used cars dismantle centre, a construction waste recycling project, a R&D and manufacturing centre for environmental equipment, a public low-carbon coliseum and an environmental protection education center, etc. On top of these projects, Everbright International will also upgrade Phase I and Phase II of the existing waste-to-energy projects and hence all gas emission standards will comply with the European Union 2000 standards. The Group aims to build the most environment friendly waste-to-energy project in the PRC.
Suzhou Industrial Park is the first integrated household solid waste treatment environmental industrial model park in the PRC. As at the end of 2009, the Suzhou Industrial Park had attracted a total investment of HK$1.5 billion, in which Everbright International accounted for approximately HK$1.45 billion, projects included Phase I and Phase II of Suzhou Waste-to-energy Project, Phase I and Phase II of Methane-to-energy Project, Phase I of Industrial Solid Waste Landfill Project, Leachate Treatment Project and Leachate Methane-to-energy Project, etc.
The Suzhou Waste-to-energy Project is the first environmental project invested and built by the Everbright International. With an aggregate daily processing capacity of 2,050 tonnes, it is also the largest and most advanced waste-to-energy project for household waste in the PRC. Up till the end of 2009, the plants have processed accumulate household waste of 1.92 million tonnes, and generated electricity of 520 million kWh in total, which is equivalent to standard coal saving of 270,000 tonnes, carbon dioxide emission reduction of 680,000 tonnes and land saving of 200 acres.
Mr. Chen Xiaoping, Chief Executive Officer of Everbright International, said, "Everbright International will focus on projects which are environmental friendly, with low carbon emissions, facilitate energy conservation and economic recycling. By adhering to our principle of 'Implementing projects with one success following by another', the Group will continue to promote the development of Suzhou Industrial Park which will advance with the aim to improve the quality of life in society while boosting economic development. Our development plan reflects our determination to support the Government's policy to establish AAA tourist spots by turning this leading ecological model project into a new tourist attraction along with the other ancient districts in Suzhou. In addition, the success of Suzhou Industrial Park can also spur the development of two other environmental protection industrial parks in Suqian and Zhenjiang, and replicate the successful environment protection industrial parks model in other parts of the PRC."
