Everbright International Provides Hourly Disclosure of Emission Standards of Its Operating Waste-to-energy Projects

5 January 2017, Beijing - China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or the "Group") (HKSE: 00257) is pleased to announce that, from 1 January 2017, the Group has begun to provide online monitoring report of the hourly average level of gas emission for all of its operating waste-to-energy projects. This marks the completion of the "Four Steps" environmental information disclosure plan (the "Plan") launched in August 2015.

Throughout the implementation of the Plan, Everbright International has always been committed to its core value of "An Enterprise is not only the Creator of Wealth, but also the Safeguard of Environmental and Social Responsibility", with the Group's implementation having progressed steadily step-by-step in accordance with the Plan. In less than one and a half year since August 2015, the Group has successfully achieved its goal of disclosing environmental impact assessments and publishing the levels of its operating waste-to-energy projects' environmental indicators on a monthly, daily and hourly basis. Additionally, since 1 June 2016, the Group has opened its operating waste-to-energy projects to the public during the first weekend of each month. The general public could make reservations to visit the plants by phone or by email. From June to December 2016, the Group facilitated 1,684 visits with 31,491 visitors. These important initiatives are new breakthroughs for Everbright International in terms of information transparency and disclosure. By doing so, the Group has set new benchmarks and has become a role model in the waste-to-energy industry.

Representatives from industry associations, including the China Ecological Civilization Research and Promotion Association, the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, the All-China Environment Federation, the center for environmental sanitation research of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the PRC, the China Association of Urban Environmental Sanitation, the China Association of Circular Economy and the renewable energy power generation branch of China Electric Power Promotion Council, attended a press conference on the announcement and spoke highly of Everbright International's disclosure mechanisms as well as the Group's actions and willingness to undertake responsibility.

Currently, Everbright International has 26 waste-to-energy projects that have already completed construction and commenced operation. Gas emissions fully comply with the Euro 2010 Standard (Directive 2010/75/EU) with their dioxin emission levels nearly at zero. The water produced from the leachate treatment complies with water quality standards allowing the use of reused water in open-type recirculating cooling water systems regulated by the Reuse of Urban Recycling Water – Water Quality Standard for Industrial Uses (GB/T 19923-2005), with the benefit that all the water is fully recycled after the treatment. Since May 2016, the Group has increased the frequency of dioxin testing from at least two times per year to no less than four times per year, which is higher than the national requirements of at least once per year.

From 1 January 2017, Everbright International has begun to disclose the levels of the indicators of its operating waste-to-energy projects, which can be accessed from the "Environmental Management" section of the Group's official website (www.ebchinaintl.com). The Group will update the online monitoring report of the hourly average level of gas emission, as well as disclosing both the daily results of leachate treatment water quality tests and the ignition loss rate of incineration residue from the previous day at 5:00PM every day, the monthly chelated fly ash test results, and a list of third-party testing institutions. The Group will also publish quarterly dioxin testing results and regularly update environmental impact assessment documents. In addition, the Group will officially release information about the environmental management of its newly-commenced waste-to-energy project within six months after the project passes the "72 + 24" hours trial run.
