Everbright Water Secures Its First Municipal-level Sludge Disposal Project

Singapore and Hong Kong, 5 January 2023 - China Everbright Water Limited ("Everbright Water" or the "Company"; stock codes: U9E.SG and 1857.HK) (中國光大水務有限公司), an environmental protection company focusing on water environment management, is pleased to announce that the Company has recently secured Liaoning Anshan Municipal Sludge Disposal Project ("Anshan Sludge Disposal Project") Phase I, which commands an investment of approximately RMB186 million.

Anshan Sludge Disposal Project Phase I will be implemented by a project company, which will be wholly owned by Everbright Water, based on a BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) model, for a concession period of 30 years (including the construction period). The project will construct a new sludge disposal plant with a daily treatment capacity of 500 tonnes, a sludge treatment workshop, and a set of ancillary infrastructure facilities such as water supply and drainage facilities, and electrical networks. The project is mainly responsible for treating sludge with a water content of 80% produced from waste water treatment plants across Anshan City. After undergoing the treatment process, the water content of the sludge will be reduced to 40%. The treated sludge will then be sent for incineration with household waste at a designated waste-to-energy plant to realise the harmless and resourceful disposal of sludge.

Anshan Sludge Disposal Project Phase I marks the first municipal-level sludge disposal project that Everbright Water has secured, after implementing several sludge treatment facilities within waste water treatment projects in recent years. This has enhanced the Company’s service capability in the field of municipal sludge treatment and disposal. In addition, the project is expected to form a good synergy with Anshan West 2nd Waste Water Treatment Project of the Company, which has been operating stably locally for years, boosting the Company’s service capability and efficiency in the local market. Riding on this project, Everbright Water will facilitate Anshan City to constantly improve the quality of the local water environment and ensure the safety of the living environment of local residents through its high-quality waste water treatment and sludge disposal services. The Company will also take the implementation of Anshan Sludge Disposal Project Phase I as an opportunity to explore the potential of its traditional businesses such as waste water treatment, to enrich the Company’s business connotation, promote synergies, and boost resource utilisation among various projects, solidifying the Company’s comprehensive business strength and market position.
