Mr. Wang Tianyi, CEO of Everbright International, meets with Mr. Zhang Haibo, Secretary of Weihai Municipal Committee in Shandong Province, via Video Teleconference
On 27 April, Mr. Wang Tianyi, CEO of China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or the "Company"), held a video teleconference in Hong Kong with Mr. Zhang Haibo, Secretary of Weihai Municipal Committee in Shandong Province, who visited Everbright International’s Shenzhen headquarters. Both sides had in-depth discussions on further enhancing cooperation in areas such as environment, resources and energy. Ms. Yang Li, Vice Mayor of Weihai Municipal Government; Mr. Lin Qiang, Deputy Secretary-General of the CPC Weihai Standing Committee; Mr. Qian Xiaodong, Deputy General Manager of Everbright International; and Mr. An Xuesong, Deputy General Manager of Everbright International, joined the meeting.
The meeting connected venues from both Shenzhen and Hong Kong, with smooth discussions among the participants, in which the atmosphere was relaxed and harmonious. Mr. Wang Tianyi said that although the meeting was held via video teleconference due to the pandemic, both sides could feel close to each other. Thanks to the care and support of China Everbright Group and the local government authorities at all levels, Everbright International has maintained good development momentum. The Company has a total of over 14,000 staff, with over RMB100 billion in total assets and more than RMB30 billion in revenue. It topped the list of 2019 China’s Top 50 Environmental Enterprises published by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce. The Company’s subsidiaries, China Everbright Greentech Limited and China Everbright Water Limited, were also on the list. Everbright International is not only the world’s largest waste-to-energy investor and operator, but also a leading player in terms of industrial hazardous waste treatment, water treatment and biomass integrated utilisation, etc.
Mr. Wang Tianyi also expressed his appreciation for the long-term support and trust of the municipal government and the CPC Standing Committee of Weihai. Specifically, he mentioned that Weihai City has a pleasant environment with huge development prospects. As the Company’s first biomass integrated utilisation project in Shandong Province, Weihai Wendeng Biomass Electricity and Heat Cogeneration Project has brought good environmental, social and economic effectiveness to Weihai. The project has also laid a solid foundation for further cooperation for both sides. As an environmental protection enterprise with a great sense of responsibility, strong capability and an advanced corporate philosophy, Everbright International has maintained its advantages in traditional business areas, and will further optimise its investment structure to explore new and high-quality development opportunities. The Company looks forward to enhancing cooperation with Weihai City in areas of water treatment, "zero-waste city", energy-saving lighting, among others. This could further enhance ties between Everbright International and Weihai, help accelerate progress of relevant projects, assist Weihai to transform into a "zero-waste city", and facilitate the city to become a boutique and eco-friendly city.
Secretary Zhang Haibo said that the epidemic in Weihai has become gradually more stable, and he felt happy to walk out of the city to visit new and old friends. Previous cooperation between Weihai City and Everbright International has seen outstanding results and both sides have established good interactive relations. In recent years, Weihai has been transforming into a boutique city, by ensuring the safety of water resources, maintaining a smooth and fast traffic connection, protecting the coastline, among other ecological resources. These have helped to foster good synergy with Everbright International’s development direction. Weihai City, located at the easternmost tip of Shandong Peninsula. It is surrounded by the Yellow Sea from North, East, and South. Its north side is adjacent to Liaodong Peninsula, and its east side is close to the Korean Peninsula across the sea, with the west borders connecting the city of Yantai. The largest horizontal distance from east to west of Weihai is 135 kilometers, and the largest vertical distance from north to south is 81 kilometers. The city covers an area of 5799.8 square kilometers, with a 985.9 kilometers long coastline. In 1984, Weihai was shortlisted in the first batch of opening-up coastal cities in China. In 1990, it was rated as China's first national sanitary city. In 2017, it was selected as the fifth national civilized city. In 2019, the city was selected as a pilot "zero-waste city".
Everbright International and Weihai have been cooperating in the areas of biomass power generation and waste water treatment. Wendeng Biomass Cogeneration Project, which was secured by the Company in 2017, is the first biomass power generation project invested by Everbright International in Shandong Province. It mainly uses straw, forest waste and other biomass raw materials as fuel for power generation, heating and gas supply. The total investment of the project is approximately RMB380 million, generating approximately 180,000,000 kWh of green electricity annually, playing a key role in improving the rural ecological environment in the Wendeng District and its surrounding areas of Weihai. In 2019, Everbright Water signed an engineering, procurement and construction agreement with the government of Wendeng District, Weihai City, Shandong Province. Pursuant to the agreement, the company is responsible for the construction of a waste water treatment plant and its ancillary pipeline network in the Chemical Industrial Park of Wendeng District in Weihai City, with a contract value of approximately RMB106 million.
