Everbright International Forges the Largest Waste-to-energy Plant in the PRC
Expands Suzhou Veinous Park
Maximizes Return of Resources Recycle China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or "the Group") announced that it has completed and commenced operation of Phase II of its waste-to-energy project in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Together with Phase I of the project which began commercial operation in July 2006, the Suzhou Project is the largest waste-to-energy plant in the PRC.The project, the two phases together, commanded a total investment of approximately RMB940,000,000 and has been granted a 25-year exclusive right of operation on BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) basis. It has a designed total daily waste processing capacity of 2,050 tonnes and Phase I of the project has already reached full capacity. Construction of Phase II of the project began in February 2008 had been on schedule and has now commenced operation with its emission level meeting required standards.
Furthermore, with the implementation of different projects by phases in the Suzhou Everbright National Demonstrative Veinous Industrial Park ("Suzhou Veinous Park"), its scale continues to grow. Suzhou Veinous Park is the first model integrated urban, industrial and household solid waste treatment park in the PRC. The scale of the project has expanded during the course of development from the original 2.5 sq. km. to 3.2 sq. km. and correspondingly the investment involved is expected to increase notably. Up till now, Everbright International has invested approximately RMB 1,100,000,000 in Suzhou Veinous Park.
On top of the Phase I and Phase II of the original waste-to-energy project, methane-to-energy project, industrial solid waste landfill project, environmentally-friendly brick from sludge and leachate treatment project, new facilities including Phase III of the waste-to-energy project, waste ashes and residues re-use, waste pre-treatment, municipal sludge dehydration treatment, medical waste treatment, used car dismantling, old batteries re-use, food waste re-use, as well as other green service and ecological restoration projects will be added in the Suzhou Veinous Park. In addition, the Group plans to build a R&D center focusing on studying processing technology for household waste and a reverse logistic service project, i.e. retrieving reusable waste including parts, used glasses, metal and tires and deliver them to other areas in Suzhou City for recycling use.
Mr. Chen Xiaoping, Chief Executive Officer of Everbright International, said, "The country's increasing investment in environmental protection construction has created enormous opportunities for us. Expansion of the Suzhou Veinous Park will continue to be guided by our ‘3R' principle, that is Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, and we will employ advanced technologies to obtain the most of recyclable resources from the wastes resulting from production and consumption activities. The aim of the Suzhou Veinous Park is to contribute to energy conservation, reduction of pollutant emissions, harmless treatment of waste and alighting burden on the environment through recycling of resources, and ultimately aid the sustainable development of the human society."
