Everbright International Secures Henan Taikang Waste-to-energy Project
2 September 2016, Hong Kong - China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or the "Group") (HKSE: 00257) is pleased to announce that it has signed a concession agreement for a household waste-to-energy project with the People's Government of Taikang County, Henan Province. The Group will invest in the construction of the Taikang Waste-to-energy Project ("Taikang Project" or the "Project"), which is the third waste-to-energy project that Everbright International has secured in Henan Province after acquiring the Xinzheng Waste-to-energy Project and the Lankao Waste-to-energy Project.Taikang Project will be constructed on a BOO (Build-Operate-Own) basis for 30 years. It has a designed daily household waste processing capacity of 1,050 tonnes and will be constructed in two phases. The amount to be invested in Project Phase I will be approximately RMB400 million. Phase I is expected to have a daily household waste processing capacity of 700 tonnes and will generate approximately 85,890,200 kWh of green electricity annually. Its gas emissions will fully comply with the Euro 2010 Standard.
Taikang County is located in the southeast of Henan Province with 23 villages and towns under its jurisdiction, and landfills have been the most common method of waste treatment in the area. With the development of its economy and the continuous improvement of people's living standards, the county has seen increasing amounts of waste generated, and a greater demand for waste management and environmental protection. Taikang Project will be the first waste-to-energy project in the county. The construction of the Project will use high quality technology to effectively process waste to render it harmless, as well as reducing and reusing it. It will also help to deal with the challenge of too much land being used for landfill sites and will reduce problems associated with environmental pollution.
