Everbright International Environmental Protection Charitable Foundation is the Lead Sponsor of Earth Hour Hong Kong for the Fourth Year Running

Continuing the Spirit of Earth Hour through Low Energy Consumption and Environmental-Friendly Lifestyle

25 March 2017, Hong Kong – The countdown to Earth Hour Hong Kong 2017 was held at 8:30pm on 25 March at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui. For a fourth consecutive year, Everbright International Environmental Protection Charitable Foundation, founded by China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or the "Group") (HKSE: 00257), was the lead sponsor of the annual global environmental protection campaign. Iconic government buildings, including the Government House, the Chief Executive's office, the Legislative Council complex, Tsing Ma Bridge and numerous other landmark buildings, as well as over 5,600 organizations in Hong Kong, lent their support to the campaign by switching off their lights. Mr. An Xuesong, Director of Everbright International Environmental Protection Charitable Foundation, attended the countdown ceremony together with officials from the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, World Wide Fund For Nature ("WWF") Hong Kong and Hong Kong citizens in support of the campaign, which aims to persuade people to conserve energy and reduce emissions for a sustainable future.

Organized by the WWF, which has a 35-year history, the theme of Earth Hour Hong Kong 2017 was "For a Solar Powered City", which called for higher public awareness about the development of renewable energy and the enhancement of energy efficiency. It also encouraged the public to reflect on their high-energy consumption daily habits and to think about how they can reduce energy consumption in their day-to-day lives so as to play a part in the mission to reduce emissions.

Mr. An Xuesong said during his speech at the campaign, "Tonight, we gather here at the harbor front to promote environmental protection once again through a simple lights-out' action. We encourage all members of the Hong Kong community to take practical steps to pick up environmental-friendly and energy-conserving habits in our daily lives. The collective efforts of every individual will result in a powerful impact that will reduce the burden on the city's environment and facilitate its sustainable development. This will allow Hong Kong, the Pearl of the Orient, to continue to thrive in the long-term. By supporting the Earth Hour campaign, Everbright International would like to work hand-in-hand with the general public to inspire more to take action and carry forward the spirit of Earth Hour in every aspect of our lives. This will ensure that every individual can contribute to the protection of our shared home and to the creation of a future with a clean and beautiful natural landscape."
