Everbright International Environmental Protection Charitable Foundation is the Lead Sponsor of Earth Hour Hong Kong for the Fifth consecutive year

24 March 2018, Hong Kong – The countdown to Earth Hour Hong Kong 2018 was held at 8:30pm on 24 March at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui. Everbright International Environmental Protection Charitable Foundation, founded by China Everbright International Limited ("Everbright International" or the "Group") (HKSE: 00257), was the lead sponsor of the Earth Hour Hong Kong campaign for the fifth consecutive year. A total of 11,200 organisations and individuals in Hong Kong pledged to participate in the campaign this year, including numerous landmark buildings such as the Government House, the Legislative Council complex, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ("HKSAR"), the Tsing Ma Bridge and the Hong Kong Observation Wheel. "A Symphony of Lights" was also suspended for one night in support of the campaign. Mr. Wong Kam Chung, Director of Everbright International Environmental Protection Charitable Foundation, attended the countdown ceremony together with officials from the Government of the HKSAR, World Wide Fund For Nature Hong Kong ("WWF-Hong Kong"), and Hong Kong citizens, to raise public awareness for climate change.

Organised by WWF-Hong Kong, which has over 35 years' history in the city, the Earth Hour Hong Kong 2018 was themed with "Let Nature Shine". The campaign called for stronger public awareness on the critical situation of climate change and for people to incorporate environmental-friendly and low-carbon practices into their daily lives. Each person's initiative counts towards bringing hope and change for the ecological environment, and towards driving Hong Kong's transition to a renewable energy city.

Mr. Wong Kam Chung said, "Tonight, inspired by the campaign theme 'Let Nature Shine', the Victoria Harbor made a stand for 'ecological protection' and promoted the concept of 'energy conservation and environmental protection' with the simple act of 'switching off the light'. Climate change is one of the biggest challenges we face today, the negative impacts of which have dented the ability of all countries and regions to achieve sustainable development. We hope that through this campaign, people from all social circles in Hong Kong can pull together in their daily work and life to reduce the burden on the local environment, and resolve ecological and environmental challenges such as climate change, in order to help Hong Kong build sustainable communities. Small steps lead to success. As long as each of us is committed to making small efforts to protect the ecology and environment, the city can become greener and fresher."
