Everbright Environment Included in Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for Sixth Consecutive Year, Representing the Company's Commitment to Sustainability

18 November 2021, Hong Kong – The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (the "DJSI") recently announced the results of its annual review. China Everbright Environment Group Limited ("Everbright Environment" or the "Company") (SEHK: 257) has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Emerging Markets Index (the "Index") for the sixth consecutive year, on the back of its sustained excellent performance. It is one of the three companies from mainland China that have been included in the Index this year. Over the past six years, no more than three mainland Chinese companies have been included in the Index each year and Everbright Environment is one of them. The DJSI's latest review will take effect from Monday, 22 November 2021.

According to the review results, more than 800 companies were invited to participate in the evaluation of the Index, and a total of 108 companies were included as constituents of the Index. Everbright Environment remains in the Commercial & Professional Services sector under the emerging markets category this year, with an overall score of 64, which is much higher than the industry average of 31. The Company's performance is particularly outstanding in the areas of codes of business conduct, customer relationship management, policy influence, risk and crisis management, supply chain management, environmental reporting, social reporting, talent attraction and retention, among others. Among them, customer relationship management, environmental reporting and social reporting scored the highest among other companies within the same sector that were included in the Index.

Launched in 1999, the DJSI series is one of the first global indices to track the largest and leading listed companies that achieve sustainable development. It serves as an important reference for investors and companies. The DJSI series evaluate the companies' performance in sustainable development in terms of governance and economic, environmental, and social dimensions, according to strict assessment standards. This year, the assessment covers 5,300 companies that are eligible for S&P Global ESG indices, including 1,843 qualified enterprises that account for 45% of the global market cap. According to the DJSI's methodology, Hong Kong is categorised into Asia Pacific, while the mainland and Taiwan are classified as emerging markets (including Chinese companies in Hong Kong). The Index only shortlists the top 10% performers from each of the sectors on its list.

Mr. Wang Tianyi, Chairman of the board of Everbright Environment, said that being included in the DJSI for six years running indicates that Everbright Environment's continuous effort and progress in sustainable development has been well recognised by international authorities. As China's largest environmental enterprise with largest carbon-negative contribution, Everbright Environment has not only established its own "carbon negative" status, but also set a "Three Carbons" development target of "becoming a carbon-negative company, developing zero-carbon plants, and pursuing a low-carbon lifestyle". In first half of this year, the Company generated green electricity of more than 10 billion kWh, which is equivalent to reducing CO2 emissions by more than 9 million tonnes. Facing responsibilities and opportunities relating to reduction of pollution and carbon, Everbright Environment will continue to adhere to its corporate mission of "Being Devoted to Ecology and Environment for a Beautiful World", and strive to create better investment value and undertake more social responsibility, in an attempt to make greater contribution to China's ecological conservation progress, as well as the green and low-carbon development of human beings.
