Everbright Water Secures Nanxiong Livestock and Poultry Manure Resource Utilisation Project, Marking the First Project in Guangdong Province
Singapore and Hong Kong, 21 November 2023 – China Everbright Water Limited (“Everbright Water” or the “Company”; stock codes: U9E.SG and 1857.HK) (中國光大水務有限公司), an environmental protection company focusing on water environment management, is pleased to announce that the consortium (the “Consortium”) formed by the subsidiaries of Everbright Water and an external party has secured Guangdong Nanxiong Livestock and Poultry Manure Resource Utilisation Project (“Nanxiong Project” or the “Project”), which has an estimated investment of approximately RMB50 million. It is Everbright Water’s first environmental protection project in Guangdong Province. Furthermore, it marks the Company’s entry in the field of livestock and poultry manure resource utilisation, thereby expanding its water environment management business to the areas of non-point source pollution control and rural environmental management.
By providing treatment services to the entire Nanxiong City, Nanxiong Project adopts a resource utilisation approach and a centralised agricultural waste treatment centre model, which enable livestock and poultry manure to be treated into organic fertilisers. Such services will not only meet the local demand for livestock and poultry manure treatment but also fulfill the needs of various crops for organic fertilisers. On one hand, Nanxiong Project can reduce and address the problem of non-point source pollution in local areas by preventing the runoff of livestock and poultry manure into local rivers and lakes. On the other hand, through the sale of high-quality organic fertilisers, the Project can contribute to improving local resource utilisation levels and enhancing the Project’s profitability concurrently.
Nanxiong Project involves the construction of a biogas power generation facility that treats livestock and poultry manure, and an organic fertiliser production line with an annual capacity of 30,000 tonnes. Additionally, a waste collection, storage, and transportation system for livestock, poultry manure, and other agricultural waste will be implemented. The project company, in which the Company will ultimately hold 60% equity interest, will be responsible for the investment, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Project.
2023 marks a crucial year for China’s comprehensive promotion of rural revitalisation and the accelerated construction of an agricultural powerhouse. It is important to address pollution control via various approaches in the agricultural sector, such as waste reduction at source, resource utilisation, pollution and carbon emission reduction, and ecological restoration. By creating systematic solutions, we can improve the living environment of rural areas, which fulfills the needs of the nation and the demands of the public. Once Nanxiong Project is put into operation upon completion of construction work, it will process and treat the local livestock and poultry farming waste into valuable resources. It will address the “last” challenge of returning livestock and poultry manure to the farmland. This will support the development of an environmentally-friendly agricultural and livestock farming model in Nanxiong City, which is known as a major agricultural county-level city in Guangdong Province. The Project will also help to upgrade the local industries by promoting synergies among the primary, secondary, and tertiary industries.
Securing Nanxiong Project enriches Everbright Water’s comprehensive “water-related” businesses. As the next step, the Company will closely collaborate with the other member of the Consortium, and leverage their strengths, to gradually develop the Project as an industry benchmark. By enhancing the relevant treatment effectiveness, and promoting the sustainable development in local livestock and poultry farming and agriculture in general, Everbright Water aims to contribute to the creation of a new model for rural revitalisation in Nanxiong City, taking actions in alignment with the national strategy of rural revitalisation and the development of ecological agriculture.
